4. Levels

At what level are you?

There are four levels of language skills ranging from Elementary to Magistral level. Magistral is a top level of professional academic proficiency.

 

Level 1: Elementary

Minimal or no previous contact with Spanish. Initiation of the simple uses of language and basic communication strategies. The goal is to lay the foundations for progress in the development of the four language skills: listening comprehension, oral expression, written expression, and reading comprehension. Students will learn to express personal experiences for simple social situations. Upon completion students will be given an official Certificate of Attendance of the course.

 

Level 2: Intermediate

Language skills sufficient to handle informal situations and talk about past and future events. Contact with vocabulary and expressions characteristic of the work world, economics, and business. An ability to talk, read, and write with ease about everyday subjects. Specific knowledge of language at work in order to handle basic tasks such as commercial letter writing, using the telephone, etc.

 

Level 3: Advanced

Language skills sufficient enough to formulate and present an argument, and to express different points of view. Greater specialization in technical vocabulary. Students will acquire a good command of the language in order to use it in complex everyday situations. The four language skills will be developed to the point that they can be used in a professional environment both orally and in writing. At the end of this course, students will be ready to take the D.E.L.E. exam (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) and also the exam for the Higher Certificate in Business Spanish awarded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid.

 

Level 4: Magistral

Bilingual proficiency. Communication almost as effective as that of a native speaker. Correct grammar and appropriate usage of language for matters of business. Proficiency in both written and oral communication with command of the structures and technical vocabulary. At the end of this course, students will be ready to take the DELE exam and the Diploma in Business Spanish Exam given by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid.
